Bollywood's famous actor Dilip
Kumar passed away today at the age of 98 due to health-related ailments. Let us
tell you that Dilip Kumar was born on 11 December 1922 in Peshawar city of
present-day Pakistan.
His childhood name was YusufKhan. And the father's name was Lala Ghulam Sarwar, who used to earn his
family's living by selling fruits. His family settled in Mumbai during Partition.
His early life was spent in poverty. Due to loss in his father's business, he
started working in a canteen in Pune. It was here that Devika Rani first caught
sight of him and made Dilip Kumar an actor. It was Devika Rani who renamed him
as 'Dilip Kumar' instead of 'Yusuf Khan'. At the age of twenty-five, Dilip
Kumar was established as the number one actor in the country. Dilip Kumar
married the famous actress Saira Banu in 1966. At the time when Dilip Kumar and
Saira Banu got married, Saira Banu was 22 years old and Dilip Sahab 44 years
old.
The couple was one of the most
famous couples of Bollywood. When people read in the newspapers that Dilip
Kumar is marrying actress Saira Banu, they were shocked. By the way, it was
natural for him to be shocked, because before marriage, Dilip Kumar had not
done a single film with Saira Banu. There was neither friendship nor mingling
between the two. The biggest thing is that there was a huge difference in the
age of both. Another truth was that in those days film magazines were also
linking Saira Banu's name to her co-actor Rajendra Kuma
Dilip Kumar started his film
career with the 1944 film "Jwar Bhata". However this film was not
successful. His first hit film was "Jugnu". Released in 1947, the
film brought Dilip Kumar to the ranks of a hit film star in Bollywood. In 1949,
Dilip Kumar worked with Raj Kapoor for the first time in the film Andaz.
Proved to be a hit. Known for his
serious roles in films like Deedar (1951) and Devdas (1955), he came to be
known as the Tragedy King. He played the role of Mughal prince Jahangir in
Mughle-e-Azam (1960). The double role played by Dilip Kumar in "Ram Aur
Shyam" proves to be successful in making people tickle even today. She worked
with Amitabh Bachchan in Ramesh Sippy's film Shakti. He also received the
Filmfare Award for this film. He is still an inspiration for leading actors
like Shahrukh Khan. In the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, he acted in fewer films. His
major films of this period were: Kranti (1981), Vidhata (1982), Duniya (1984),
Karma (1986), Izzatdar (1990) and Saudagar (1991). He retired from films after
'Qila' released in 1998. Dilip Kumar was the shining star of Bollywood who has
left his mark in the whole world through his acting, he cannot be forgotten.
